What is the KonMari Club?
“Tidying is just a tool, not the final destination. The true goal should be to establish the lifestyle you want most once your house has been put in order.”
In a nutshell, the KonMari Club is a whole year of decluttering and organizing all areas of your life and cultivating a spark-joy life.
Imagine you're mostly done with decluttering your home (or at the beginning, or the messy middle), and you notice that you’d like to dive deeper into other areas of your life too, but you don’t want to do it all by yourself. You want more accountability and, above all, more joy along the journey. The KonMari Club is a supportive and structured community of like-minded people. We meet twice per month for small group via Zoom, and then there are three optional events per month (which I will explain in this blog post).
The foundation of the club is Marie Kondo’s philosophy of “Does it spark joy?” ✨ which means creating a life with intention.
The background story of the KonMari Club
The pilot program of the KonMari Club was born out of two small groups of women led by Patty Morrissey. After spending so much time in isolation due to the pandemic, Patty wanted to bring like-minded people together on Zoom to connect in a meaningful way, and I was one of them.
During the summer of 2020, we met weekly for 12 weeks to read Julia Cameron’s bestselling book “The Artist’s Way” to create space and awareness to re-awaken our inner artists. You can see my small group of four people (and a baby) in the picture.
Patty Morrissey began developing the pilot program in 2020, while we all worked together through “The Artist’s Way.” She is the program director of the KonMari Club, a fellow KonMari® Master Consultant, and was my instructor when I started my KonMari® certification journey in 2019.
Out of the Artist’s Way group, the pilot program for the KonMari Club was born, and Patty named it Cultivate Club.
Back then, the majority of the members were KonMari® Consultants, and we wanted to continue building a life that sparks joy in all areas of life.
In December 2020, I joined Cultivate Club as a founding member and remained an active co-creator until 2024. The club ran for four years, with over 60 members, and most of us are still connected. Many also became part of the KonMari Club.
In the fall of 2024, I trained as a KonMari Club Coach with approximately 40 other certified consultants and began leading my own year-long KonMari Club Small Group in January 2025.
Who are the KonMari Club Coaches?
All KonMari Club Coaches are certified KonMari® Consultants from around the world. They facilitate their small groups and all the other events with lots of empathy and in a non-judgmental way.
What makes the KonMari Club and its coaches so special is how they create a safe and supportive environment, allowing each club member to grow at their own pace throughout the year.
Imagine that all the new habits that you are developing are like a little plant 🌱, and this young plant needs to grow in a protected and safe place for a little while before it gets out into the “wild” - so to speak.
I remember when I moved abroad for the first time and lived in a new city and country, I felt free to be a different version of myself. I was still myself, but because nobody knew me there, I was free to explore and be a much braver version of myself. Often, new places and settings help us to take a new kind of courage, and the KonMari Club is such a place for many people.
How is the KonMari Club structured?
Monthly Themes
Every month we have a different theme, so that after one year, you have the opportunity to work on each area of your life.
January - Self
February - Body
March - Time
April - Money
May - Creativity
June - Adventure
July - Love & Intimacy
August - Rest
September - Meaningful Work
October - Spirituality
November - Friends & Family
December - Community
KonMari Club Events
The KonMari Club also hosts five or more events each month that help you clear and cultivate a life on your own terms. KonMari Club Coaches and program director Patty Morrissey facilitate all these events.
Here is a little description of the different events in the club:
Small Groups (every other week)
The most important event is the small group meeting with your designated small group coach. You have the chance to meet every other week and to connect with 8-10 other people. You start as strangers, but it gets deep and profound very quickly.
What sparks most joy for me is that the KonMari Club is a diverse and inclusive movement with members from all over the world. Depending on the time zone of where the members live, we have different time zone slots. My small group meets in the evening in New York, and its members are from the US and Australia.
Spark Sessions (1x month)
Spark Sessions take place on the first of each month and are designed for intention setting. You can follow the monthly themes or choose the one that fits best for the season you are in. And of course, there are workbooks and other resources if you enjoy things like that. Nothing is a must, but members have the option to follow their curiosity.
To give you a little example: this is my 5th year of being part of the club, and I’m already deep into the practice, and my whole year has focused on my holistic health. So, when we had Creativity Month in May, I focused on creative activities that helped calm my nervous system and relax me, allowing me to be present in the moment.
I love going to the Spark Sessions. It feels so empowering and exciting to be in a Zoom room with like-minded people and brainstorm about which intentions we all want to set for the month. There are two sessions at different times, so all time zones get a chance to participate, but it is also recorded in case you can’t make it.
Fireside Salons (1x month)
Fireside Salons are intimate events where guest experts share their expertise and experience on a monthly theme. During ‘Time Month’ (March), we had author Gretchen Rubin join us, which was amazing. Our director, Patty Morrissey, asked Gretchen very personal questions, and we were also able to ask questions at the end. And we definitely had many fans who followed Gretchen for years (I am certainly one of them).
Tidy Festivals (1x month)
Imagine dozens of excited individuals in one Zoom room, ready to declutter, organize, and tidy up their homes and lives. We meet once a month for three hours, and each person declutters by themselves. And if they are stuck, they can unmute themselves and the KonMari Club Coach, who is also a certified KonMari® Consultant (because all coaches are), guides them through their challenge. Three hours might sound long, but the time passes so quickly.
What happens in between the events?
In between, members and coaches can connect through our private member portal. That is where everything is tied together. And again, each member decides how active they want to be. As a coach, I am there daily, and it also sparks a lot of joy for me; it's kind of my social media, rather than being on Instagram.
We have a big Membership Hub for all members, and then there are also more intimate spaces where each small group can connect. And, of course, there is also 1:1 messaging.
There is so much more to tell about the KonMari Club, but for right now, I hope I gave you a small taste of what it can be. If you’d like to learn more, I added two buttons at the end of the blog post. These are the two official KonMari Club pages.
To end the blog post, I thought I would let Marie Kondo share a few words about the KonMari Club (it’s only a little over a minute long). 🥰
“When you tidy your space, you open the door to transforming every area of your life. The KonMari Club is a space where you can continue your journey, not just with tidying, but with creating a life that brings you joy.”
More Questions & Enrollment
If you have more questions about the KonMari Club, read through the FAQ page, or send me a message, and I’ll be happy to get back to you. And if you decide to enroll and would like to send some love back to me, you can add “Kati Carrapa” to the “Did anyone refer you to this program?” field.
This way, the KonMari Club director, Patty Morrissey, and Marie Kondo know it too, and I am so excited to meet you inside the club as one of your KonMari Club coaches. 🎉
If you are already a certified KonMari® Consultant and would like to join, please let me know, as a special benefit is available to consultants, and it would be a pity to miss out.
