Sightseeing in Manhattan the third: Ground zero and 9/11 Memorial

Hello blog readers!

Before September 11, 2001 the twin towers showed where the World Trade Center is to find in Manhattans Financial District. This gap has been filled with the One World Trade Center (Freedom Tower). This skyscraper was built from 2006 to 2014 and is 104 stories high.

The building is 541,3 Meter high (1,776 feet) and the highest one in the United States as well as the fourth-tallest in the world (source: Wikipedia).

The observation deck will open at May 29th  2015.

Where the twin towers stand before are two fountains.

The edges of the fountains have the names of the victims from September 11. You can see that on the picture below.

There is new construction still going on. The lower building at the right side is the 9/11 Museum.

The buildings are reflecting in the fountain. Lisa took that shot.

This is how the buildings and the fountains are arranged.

I wish you all a good rest of the week! Many warm greetings!

Much love, Kati
